Information about the sessions
Getting divorced is literally just getting ‘unmarried’. It does not involve making arrangements for your children, or dividing your property. It is an online application with the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, and you don’t even have to go to Court. However, the form has some tricky parts and many people find they cannot complete the process without the help of a lawyer. There is also a part that needs to be signed by an authorised witness, which can be annoying to organise.
Our free* Divorce Clinics provide a space for people to bring their own computer and complete their Divorce Application in a small group setting, with the assistance of an experienced Family Lawyer. Georgia Simson runs these clinics from Healesville and is available to walk you through the application, answer any questions, and sign as your authorised witness. She also sometimes takes the clinics on the road to libraries throughout North and Eastern Melbourne. These clinics are free, because we know that separation is hard, and expensive, and we believe you deserve a break!

Accessibility and what to bring
You will need to bring a device. A computer is easiest, but a tablet or iPad is usually okay. A phone can work, at a pinch, but it is not easy. Your device will need to have a copy of your marriage certificate saved to it (if you only have the paper version, bring it with you and I will show you how to scan it with your phone).
My office is on the first floor and unfortunately the only way up is via a flight of stairs. If the session you are thinking of attending is at my office (Habitat1, Healesville) and you are unable to walk up a flight of stairs, please reach out to me and I will let you know when the next accessible Divorce Clinic will be held. I try to run some in local libraries as they are usually accessible. If you have other accessibility needs please let me know on the Sign Up Form.
Please note that these sessions are free and are in a small group setting (maximum 6 people). If you would prefer to get one on one advice we can take care of the whole divorce for you, at our standard fixed fee.
Clinics for your community group
I am happy to run low-cost Divorce Clinics for groups of 4-6 people at a place that suits the group, in the Eltham and Healesville areas. If you have a group of 4-6 people (for example at a community centre, workplace, sports centre) please feel free to contact me and ask if I can run a Clinic for your group. Cost for a group session is $2,400 (GST inc), which is divided equally between each person (ie $400 / person if there is a full group of 6).
